AI is great at hair care. It is not your dermatologist.

We get this question a lot: "Can your scan diagnose my hair loss?" The short answer is no — and we want to be the loudest voice in the room about why.

What our AI is good at

  • Estimating texture, porosity, density, scalp condition, and color tone from a clear image;
  • Matching a profile to ingredients and routines that work for similar profiles in our data;
  • Tracking change over time so you can see whether what you're doing is working.

What it is not

  • A medical device. No FDA clearance, no diagnostic intent.
  • A substitute for a trichologist or dermatologist.
  • Reliable for conditions like alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, or scalp infections — those need a trained eye and often a biopsy or blood work.

When to see a clinician

If any of these is true, book a real appointment, not just an AI scan:

  • Sudden, patchy, or rapidly accelerating hair loss;
  • Persistent itching, burning, or scaling that doesn't resolve with a gentle routine;
  • Visible inflammation, pustules, or bleeding;
  • Hair changes that come with other symptoms — fatigue, weight change, missed periods, new medications;
  • Any concern that's lasted more than a few weeks. Time matters with scarring alopecias.

What we do when we're unsure

Our analysis returns a confidence score. When confidence is below a threshold — bad lighting, motion blur, an unusual presentation — we'll tell you the result is uncertain rather than guess. You can also request human review of any analysis from your account.
